These are chemically bonded to your teeth and tend to be more conservative as they don’t require as much tooth preparation as silver amalgams. While not as commonly used these days, silver amalgams can also be a good option in certain situations where esthetics are not a concern (eg. silver fillings tend to last longer in teeth with deep decay below the gumline).
