Oral Sedation

Uxbridge Family Dentistry offers various levels sedation to make your visits more comfortable.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is a safe way to achieve a minimal level of sedation if you are only slightly nervous about your dental work. If you are a good candidate for this treatment, you’ll be asked to come to the office about 1 hour prior to the scheduled appointment and you’ll be given an oral sedative to take. You’ll sit in the dental chair and relax for about 1 hour, during which time you’ll be monitored as the sedative starts to take effect. You will still be conscious, but most patients will feel less nervous for their dental work after receiving an oral sedative.

Moderate Intravenous (IV) Sedation

This sedation modality is aimed to help patients with a more moderate level of dental anxiety and is very safe and effective. IV sedation can be offered to patients undergoing all types of dental treatment ranging from basic fillings, to implant surgery, to gum grafts and wisdom tooth extractions. With this type of sedation, we are able to control the exact amount of sedative that is needed to achieve a moderate level of sedation to make your dental visit comfortable and keep you calm and relaxed.

A thorough consultation and review of your medical history is required when considering any form of sedation. If you feel anxious during dental visits, contact our office for a consultation to see if sedation could be a good fit for you.
