Frenectomy

The frenum is a small fold of tissue that connects the lip to the gums.

You can see it if you pull your upper or lower lip forward – it is the thin strip of tissue that pulls directly at the gums between the two front teeth. For some people, this tissue is attached too high on the gums and when this happens, it can restrict the motion of the lips or cause gingival recession. In some cases, it can also affect the aesthetics of your smile.

To alleviate this issue, a simple gum procedure called a frenectomy is performed. The muscle attachment of the frenum is trimmed and moved away or higher up from the gum tissues, thereby releasing the tension that was once there.
